A total of 47 vacancies are expected to be filled through the Open Competitive Examination.
Any remaining vacancies from the Limited Competitive Examination may also be filled by qualified candidates from the Open Examination when eligible internal candidates are unavailable.

General Qualifications
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must possess excellent character.
- Must have sufficient physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Persons holding ordination in any religious sect are not eligible to apply.
G.C.E. Ordinary Level Qualifications
Applicants must have passed six subjects at one and the same sitting, including credit passes in:
- Sinhala, Tamil or English Language
- Science
- Mathematics
- One other subject
G.C.E. Advanced Level Qualifications
Applicants must have passed three subjects at one and the same sitting under one of the following subject combinations:
- Physics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics
- Physics and one subject from Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Combined Mathematics, together with one subject from Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Information Technology or Computer Science.
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Maximum age: 30 years
- Eligible dates of birth: On or before 13 August 2008 and on or after 13 August 1996.
Written Examination
- Intelligence Test – 2 hours – 100 marks
- Subject-Related Technical Question Paper – 2 hours – 100 marks
- Minimum pass mark for each paper: 40%
- Examination mediums: Sinhala and Tamil
The technical paper will test knowledge of Physics and Electronics up to G.C.E. Advanced Level standard, including mechanics, waves, heat, electricity, semiconductors, digital technology and communication methods.
Training Allowance
- First year: Rs. 43,274 per month from 2026 and Rs. 45,230 from 2027.
- Second year: Rs. 43,730 per month from 2026 and Rs. 45,770 from 2027.
