New Postage chargers Introduced (from 09 February 2026)

The new postal charges will come into effect from 09 February 2026. The revised local postal rates have been officially released.

Revised Postal Charges Effective 09 February 2026

The Department of Posts (Sri Lanka) has introduced new domestic postal fees that came into effect on 9 February 2026. These changes include adjustments to basic letter rates, weight limits, concession rates, and certain service charges.

Key Rate Changes (Domestic Mail)

  • Standard/Ordinary Letter: Increased from Rs. 50 to Rs. 70.
  • Registered Mail Fee: Remains at Rs. 60 as the standard registration fee.
  • Special Government/Municipal Registered Service: Increased from Rs. 110 to Rs. 130.
  • Postcard Rates: Doubled from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40.
  • Concessionary Rates (e.g., for charitable, social service, and voluntary organizations): Increased (e.g., from Rs. 30 to Rs. 50).

Weight Category Adjustments

  • The basic weight category for ordinary and business letters was raised from 20 g to 30 g.
  • The maximum weight for leaflets or a bundle of leaflets was increased from 100 g to 120 g.

Other Service Fee Updates

News reports note that additional services have also been revised, including:

  • Telemail, advertising mail, stamp envelopes, and mailbag services.
  • Minimum surcharge for unpaid or underpaid items was updated along with service charges.

Parcels and Courier

  • There were no changes announced to the fees for ordinary parcel delivery or the Sri Lanka Post Courier service at this time.

Official Source Reference

The official Sri Lanka Post website (Department of Posts) confirms updated notices and tariff information — although specific detailed tariff tables for all service categories (e.g., international mail or parcels) would normally be available directly from the tariff section or a published rate schedule.
