The Commissioner of Examinations has officially released the schedule for Sri Lanka’s national examinations to be conducted in 2026, with seven key examinations planned throughout the year.
According to the Department of Examinations Sri Lanka, the first examination will be the 2025 General Information Technology (GIT) Examination, scheduled for January 11, 2026. The remaining subjects of the postponed 2025 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) Examination will then be held from January 12 to January 20, 2026, following delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
The 2025 GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination is set to take place from February 17 to February 26, 2026. The Grade Five Scholarship Examination for 2026 will be conducted on August 9, followed by the 2026 GCE A/L Examination from August 10 to September 5.
Another GIT Examination, intended for students sitting the GCE A/L Examination for the first time in 2027, is scheduled for October 24, 2026. The final national examination of the year, the 2026 GCE O/L Examination, will be held from December 8 to December 17.
Officials stated that conducting the postponed 2025 A/L subjects in January and scheduling the 2026 O/L Examination toward the end of the year are part of efforts to restore the national examination calendar to its normal timeline. (Source: newswire)
