Appointment and responsibilities
- The Vice-Chancellor is the full-time Principal Executive Officer, Accounting Officer and academic head of the University.
- The appointee is also an ex-officio member and Chairperson of both the Council and the Senate.
- The term is three years or until the appointee reaches 65 years of age, whichever occurs first, subject to the Universities Act.
- The post carries the highest academic salary scale, an entertainment allowance of 15% of salary, and other applicable allowances.
Basic eligibility
- The applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- The applicant must be below 63 years of age as at the closing date.
- Applicants should possess strong academic leadership, management ability, communication skills and a record of outstanding achievement.
Documents to be submitted
- A complete curriculum vitae, including the applicant’s date of birth.
- A personal statement presenting a vision for the development of OUSL and proposed achievements if appointed.
- If the incumbent Vice-Chancellor applies, a report highlighting achievements during the first term of office.
- Where applicable, a letter from the employer confirming whether the applicant can be released if appointed.

Important: Both the prescribed hard-copy submission and the PDF soft copy should reach the University by the stated deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
